the gallery at woodend supports a diverse range of artists and craftspeople who work in Scarborough and North Yorkshire. Located in the foyer and main Gallery space, our collections offer a range of original art works and comprises a unique assortment of hand made products including fine art, craft, jewellery, ceramics and textiles. All items are for sale. In addition, the gallery at woodend hosts a range of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

HENRY MOORE & BRITISH ARTISTS
Lithographs

Monday 6th May - Friday 31st May 2013, 9am - 5pm weekdays, Saturdays 11am - 4pm

Moore had started producing prints from as early as 1931, but it was a meeting with the master lithographer Stanley Jones at the Curwen Press in 1958 that was to prove particularly fruitful. The two enjoyed an excellent working relationship and Moore was particularly impressed with how receptive Jones was to any suggestion of experiment. He continued to make prints with Curwen until the end of his life, producing a series of superb lithographs.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

ohn Tenniel illustrated Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, which are considered to be his finest and most enduring achievement. They must also rank among the world’s best-known children’s images, complemented with work by Sarahphotogirl inspired by her fascination of children’s literature.

One little girl, her mother and a camera, it sounds straight forward enough, but what has come out of the other side could possibly change the world of photography forever! Sarahphotogirl, renowned for her rock- star portraits and dark, fairytale-inspired self-portraits has taken baby portraiture to a whole new level. Expect to be shocked and amused, as well as delighted.

JOAN MIRÓ
Lithographs

Monday 14th October - Friday 8th November 2013, 9am - 5pm weekdays, 11am - 4pm Saturdays

Joan Miró was one of the creative giants of 20th century art. Drawing on his fantastic universe of signs and symbols, he was able to create a magical world populated by strange configurations in vivid colours. He made many prints throughout his career, their accessibility being strongly in keeping with his socialist principles.
